Cable Crimper / Swaging Tool for Stainless Cable Railing Hardware

Properly crimping the hardware onto the ends of the stainless cables is the key to a successful stainless cable railing install.

“Crimping” and “Swaging” are technically two different processes, but for the purpose of attaching cable ends onto the cables, the terms are used interchangeably. The goal is to compress the hardware around the cable so tightly that it effectively joins them as a single piece.

Watch this video where I show the technique of crimping cables using an inexpensive (but durable) hydraulic crimper. I also show how I built a stand and extension to make it easier to control the crimping process and reduce fatigue.

This tool comes with a large set of dies, so I will be able to use it in the future for crimping electrical connectors and swaging cables. Cable railing retailers will rent crimpers, but the rental cost is as much ore more than buying this tool.
